The Gearshop Tasman Adventure Race is a 4, 8, and 12-hour adventure race run to support the Motueka High School Adventure Racing team.

The Gearshop Tasman Adventure Race is 4, 8, and 12-hour adventure race run to support the Motueka High School Adventure Racing team. We are very excited to be able to showcase an area of the country where we haven't been before. Although many might be familiar with Kaiteriteri as a holiday destination we'll be taking you to some less visited parts!

The courses on offer cater to all abilities, with the navigation and terrain difficulty increasing as the duration gets longer. 

4hr Race

The 4hr event is designed for families and beginners to adventure racing. If you’re keen to try an adventure race but unsure if you could do it then this is the race for you. The navigation in this event will be easier than in the longer events.

To complete the 4hr event you will need to be able to jog/walk approx. 5km off road, and mountain bike approx. 20km on 4wd and easy mtb trailsCompetitive teams who are aiming to collect all the controls may end up doing more than the stated distances.

8hr Race

The 8 hour event is designed to be an achievable event for competitors with a good level of fitness and navigational competency. This is a step up from the 4 Hour both physically and technically with the introduction of some solid hills, singletrack biking, and 

To complete the 8 hour event you will need to be able to jog/walk approx. 10km off road, and mountain bike approx. 30km on hilly 4wd trails and singletrackCompetitive teams who are aiming to collect all the controls may end up doing more than the stated distances.

12hr Race

The 12 hour event is designed to be an exciting challenge for more experienced adventure racers. The navigation in the 12hr race will be challenging and will require a competent navigator in your team. There will also be technically difficult mountain biking and hike-a-bike sections requiring riders to get off and walk.

To complete the 12 hour event you will need to be able to jog/walk approx. 20km off road, and mountain bike approx. 50km on forestry roads and hilly 4wd trails. The biking may involve short sections of hike-a-bike. Competitive teams who are aiming to collect all the controls may end up doing more than the stated distances. The 12hr race also includes an optional sea kayak stage.
